As the walk progresses, you will see and hear many beautiful sights and sounds, such as a crystal clear river that flows through the rocks and trees along the walking path.

Your guide will tell you about this natural area and its flora & fauna during the walk.

Special Schedule Notes

This tour does not operate on Good Friday, July 4, July 25, during annual maintenance from mid September through October, Thanksgiving Day, December 24, 25 & 31 or January 1.

Hotel Pick-Ups

  • Pickups are available in San Juan only. You must choose the Hotel Pick-Up Add-On to be picked up in San Juan for this tour.
  • San Juan is approximately 1.5 hours from the site of the rainforest walk, so the pickup time will be at least 1.5 hours before the tour time.

Tour Itinerary

Your day will begin with a relaxing ride to the top of the National Rainforest called El Yunque. After narrated commentary about the natural wonders seen from the bus, you will arrive at your drop point where you will start your adventure with a pre-walk orientation before heading into the interior section.

Once underway, you will start along a natural trail as you walk into the forest. Your guide will provide knowledgeable commentary about such things as:

  • Annual Rainfall Amounts
  • Hurricanes and Their Role in the Forest
  • Tree and Plant Life Existing in the Forest
  • Birds, Spiders, Insects and Small Mammals that May Be Seen in the Forest
  • Rivers, Waterfalls and Aquatic Life
  • Elevations and Temperatures
  • Rainforest History

Once you reach the break point at a fabulous waterfall called La Mina, it'll be time to stop and relax under the majestic canopy of the rainforest as you enjoy snacks and cold water supplied in your backpack. Your guides may give you the opportunity to wade into a crystal clear pool and wash away your tensions and troubles as La Mina Falls cascades over your body. Wading into the water may not be available if weather and rainfall have been excessive, as a protection for the ecosystem.

After the 30-minute break, you will begin your return from the mystic walk and natural wonder known as El Yunque.

Restrictions

  • If you wish to have the opportunity of wading in the La Mina water, please do not wear heavy body chemicals or insect repellents.
  • This activity is a "No Swimming" activity under DNRA 7241.
  • No one under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be permitted to partake in the activity.
  • Children under the age of six years are not permitted.
  • This tour is semi-athletic, and is not recommended for people who have had knee surgeries or back problems.
  • This tour is is not recommended for people with high blood pressure, heart conditions, heart surgeries or heart murmurs.
  • This tour is is not recommended for people who are asthmatic or diabetic, or who have any other conditions which would prevent them from walking up and down moderate rises or falls or from climbing staircases for up to two hours.
  • This tour is not recommended for expectant mothers 6 months or further along in pregnancy.

What to Wear

  • T-Shirts, Lightweight Jackets, Shorts (apparel that can get wet)
  • Change of Dry Clothes
  • Shoes - Walking Boots, High-Top Shoes, Hiking Boots, Strap-On Water Shoes (Please understand that a change of shoes may be necessary, as this is a nature walk along natural trails...and mud and water may be encountered during this walk)

You May Want To Bring

  • Plastic Bag for your wet or muddy items
  • Rain Gear, Jacket, or Umbrella
  • Still or Video Camera (bring at your own risk)
  • Insect Repellent (Botanical Repellent supplied at site)

Please Leave Behind

  • Jewelry, Watches, Bracelets, Wallets - anything you do not want to lose!
  • Radios, Walkmans, Noisemakers of any kind that may disturb the surrounding environment
  • Tobacco items of any kind - smoking is prohibited
  • Matches or lighters - no fire of any kind will be permitted
  • Alcohol - no alcohol possession or consumption is allowed

Cancellation Policy

There are no refunds. All sales are final

Change policy

If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can only be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.
